Official launch of e-Naira

Internet fraudsters, popularly known as yahoo boys are on the prowl after the official launch of e-Naira by the Central Bank of Nigeria

President Muhammadu Buhari had on Monday launched the Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) with over N500m of the currency being minted in Abuja.

Meanwhile, speaking during the event, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr. Godwin Emefiele said that over 33 banks have been fully integrated and live on the platform.

Emefiele further noted that another N200 million has also been issued to financial institutions.

However, it seems the launch of e-Naira by the Central Bank of Nigeria has created another subtle avenue for internet criminals to thrive

A source who spoke with NewsBand said days after the official launch of the digital currency, he has received dozens of email from Internet fraudsters asking him to register

Though, the source said he was fast to identify the fraudulent emails and was able to avoid being caught off guard.

The fraudsters in the email requested for his BVN, email, passwords, date of birth and phone number

He said, “One of the emails came from www.zenithbank.com.gh. This is supposed to be of Ghana. It looks real. But why should it come from Ghana 24 hours after the launch? I don’t have an account in Ghana. Curious, if you ask me.

“Zenith Bank Nigeria website address is http://www.zenithbank.com
Why is Ghana the first to send me a letter asking me to register for Nigeria e-Naira? Why hasn’t Zenith bank in Nigeria sent emails like that.

“They requested for my BVN, email, passwords, date of birth, phone number. Why?

“Please be aware that as government is planning to make payments easier, Internet fraudsters are prowling, waiting for who to fleece of their hard-earned money.

“Watch out. Be careful. Even if it looks real, like in my case, caution is advised.

“Beware!
