Wike doesn’t pay salaries as and when due, Rivers workers cry out
Some workers in Rivers State have decried the tardiness of the state governor, Mr. Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, to pay their salaries as and when due.
A Rivers State resident disclosed the report from a worker anonymously in a WhatsApp message made available to News Band on Saturday.
The anonymous whistleblower regretted that besides non-payment of salaries, the State Secretariat is nothing to write home about as it is always deserted.
He lamented that “even the taps are not running and people cannot use the toilets in the State Secretariat”.
He further disclosed that Governor Wike personally runs the board of internal revenue keeping everyone in the agency in the dark on what the State generates monthly.
He wrote: “Please I got a shocker this night which I believe you can verify with your reporters in River State.
“I heard that Wike doesn’t pay the River State workers their salaries as and when due and the River State Secretariat is always deserted.
“Also, people are not allowed to take photos there. Even the taps are not running and people cannot use the toilets in the State Secretariat.
“That the Commissioners in Rivers State only pick their basic salaries but not involved in running their Ministries as Wike appropriated their powers to himself.
“He personally runs the board of internal revenue and nobody in the agency knows what the State gets monthly”
Efforts to confirm the report proved abortive as the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor failed to answer calls by our correspondent.
In the meantime, rumours are making rounds that Governor Wike is nurturing an agenda to contest for President in 2023 general election.
Reacting to the rumour, the South East Patriots [SEP] said the presidential ambition of anybody from South West, South South and North West is displaying crass insensitivity to the agitation of South East to lead the country.
SEP convener, Sir Obunike Ohaegbu made the remarks while speaking at the maiden press conference group.
Sir Ohaegbu asked the Rivers governor to clarify his statement that the next President should from the South.
He demanded that Governor Wike should make a categorical statement on which zone from the South should produce the president in 2023.
