It is the right time President Muhammadu Buhari immediately present an address to the Senate in accordance with the provisions of the Central Bank of Nigeria Act, 2010 for the removal from office as Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Mr Godwin Emefiele [pictuerd above].

He should be removed on grounds of corruption, abuse of office and incompetence following the startling revelation of the complicity of the Central Bank of Nigeria in the armsgate currently rocking the country.

Under the Central Bank of Nigeria Act, the President is empowered by the provisions of Section 11 subsection 2 (c) & (f) of the Central Bank of Nigeria Act, to remove the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria.

Retired Lt. Colonel Sambo Dasuki

This could be done upon an address presented to the Senate and supported by two thirds majority of the Senate on the ground that the Governor is guilty of serious misconduct in relation to his duties under the Central Bank of Nigeria Act .

Recall that a former Director of Finance in the office of the National Adviser had confession on interrogation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission [EFCC].

According to him, on the instruction of the erstwhile National Security Adviser, retired Lt. Colonel Sambo Dasuki he withdrew the sum of Forty Seven Million dollars from the vault of the Central Bank of Nigeria which he delivered to the private residence of Colonel Dasuki thereby compromising the integrity of the Central Bank of Nigeria.

Undoubtedly, the Central Bank of Nigeria as the banker and provider of economic and financial adviser to the Federal government of Nigeria and the regulator of the Banking industry in the country should be a paragon and nidus of integrity, creditability and transparency.

These, in the hands of Godwin Emefiele, have cast a huge credibility and moral burden on the anti-corruption stance of the current Federal Government of Nigeria.

It goes without saying that an institution like the Central Bank of Nigeria does not need a Lilly livered fellow such as Godwin Emefiele as its Governor.

The Central Bank of Nigeria needs a thorough bred professional imbued with a heavy dose of integrity and stomach to ward off pressure from any quarters including the President.
