China’s ambassador Qin Gang was summoned to the White House on Thursday to answer for what Washington called Beijing’s “provocative” actions around Taiwan following House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taipei.

White House spox John Kirby told WaPo “we condemned the PRC’s military actions, which are irresponsible and at odds with our long-standing goal of maintaining peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait.”

At the same time, Qin was reportedly told the US maintains its One China policy and wishes to maintain open lines of communication.
