Officers of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) have cried out that despite the promotion announced by President Muhammadu Buhari, the police hierarchy is yet to pay them the 20% increase or implement the new salary structure.

This was disclosed in a memo received on Thursday, from a police officer who pleaded anonymity to avoid victimisation.

In the piece, the officer noted that despite being promoted this year in April, till this day the police rank and file “have not seen the money”.

He wrote:

“Good morning, sir.

Please sir, we need your help sir. We want this message to get to Mr. President Buhari.

Sir, we were promoted this year in April and it was back dated to September last year 2021. Since April we were promoted till today, 4/8/2022, we have not been paid our new salary and even the 20% increase announced by the president in 2020 to commence Nov. 2021, till today we have not seen the money.

Pls help us to take this message to Mr President. We learnt that the money has been released to the police authority, we don’t know why they are holding the money.

Sir, I want to use this medium to beg Nigerians the civil society, the human rights and other non-governmental organization to please rise up for us.

A hungry man is an angry man. We are tired of this situation in Nigeria. Thank you, sir.

God bless Nigeria. A new Nigeria is possible. Please don’t sell your vote. The destiny of this country lies in our hands.”

It could be recalled that News Band reported on December 15, 2021, that the Federal Government had approved a 20 per cent increase in salaries for personnel of the Nigeria Police Force.

The Minister of Police Affairs, Muhammad Dingyadi, had disclosed this to State House Correspondents in Abuja after the weekly Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting presided over by the President Buhari.

Dingyadi added that the increase will take effect from January 2022.

Reacting to the increment on March 25, 2022, the Inspector General of Police, Alkali Baba Usman, assured police officers across the country that the approved salary increment by Mr. President will take effect as soon as possible.

Baba further assured the officers that relevant government agencies, including the National Salaries, Income and Wages Commission, Office of the Accountant General of the Federation; and Ministry of Police Affairs have reached final stages of computation of emolument details of all personnel of the Force.

IGP Usman, till date, is yet to live up to his promise, according to the protesting police officers.
