The Super Eagles captain, Troost Ekong has tendered what appeared to be an unreserved apology to Nigerian fans, for the inability of the team to qualify for FIFA world cup.
Yesterday at the Mashood Abiola Stadium, the match between the Super Eagles of Nigeria and Black Stars of Ghana ended in 1-1 draw, which resulted to Ghana’s qualification for FIFA world cup slated later in November this year.
Meanwhile, disappointed fans went on rampage at the stadium, destroying properties and attacking security operatives who were making effort to arrest the volatile security situation after the unfortunate result.
However, Ekong reacting to the outcome of the world cup playoff said, “To all Nigerians, on behalf of the team, we want to apologise for not securing the World Cup ticket.
“Despite giving it everything possible, it wasn’t meant to be.
“First and foremost, as Nigerians, we share your emotions and we take our responsibility as a group.
“We sincerely thank the Nigerian fans for their overwhelming support, the NFF President who did everything possible to make the qualification happen and of course the Minister.
“A bitter pill to swallow but believe me we will be back better and stronger!”
