Ms. Chantel Adanna Chinyere, the Senior Special Assistant on Networking to the Governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodinma, has clarified that her comment involving the Governor and Archbishop Anthony Obinna, the immediate past Archbishop of Owerri, and his successor, Archbishop Lucius Iwejuru Ugorji, as well as the Catholic Church, ‘is entirely her own opinion’ and does not reflect the position of the government.

News Band had reported that Ms. Chantel, in a statement, said Governor Uzodinma criticised Archbishop Obinna and Archbishop Ugorji, as well as the Catholic Church over a “disrespect” meted to him during the installation of Ugorji.

According to the report, the Catholic community in Nigeria and beyond was jolted when Governor Uzodinma took a swipe at Archbishop Obinna and his successor following a minor disagreement that occurred during Ugorji’s installation.

Terming it a “disrespect to constituted authorities”, the Governor lampooned both clergy and the organisers of the event.

He said it is a “failure of the Catholic Archdiocese of Owerri to allow him make use of the Governor’s lectern with official seal, when he delivered his address during the inauguration of the new Archbishop of the Diocese”.

The report cited the release signed by Chantel, as condemning the Clergy for “disregard and abuse to a Catholic Governor” and bemoaned the “lack of respect by the Catholic Church”.

Concluding the statement, she said the Governor urged the Catholic Church to retrace their disobedience to the Bible as regards to respecting constituted authorities.

Reacting in a memo addressed to News Band, however, Chantel said that the publication “is entirely her own opinion considering her background as a member of Eternal sacred order of cherubim and Seraphim.

She noted that it does not represent the position of the government as Uzodinma did not complain, being a staunch member of the Catholic Church.

She stated: “My publication on the constituted authority of the state the governor not allowed to use the Executive seal at Assumpta cathedral at the installation of the archbishop is entirely my opinion considering my background as a member of Eternal sacred order of cherubim and Seraphim.

“[It] does not represent the position of the government as His Excellency did not and is not complaining as a staunch Catholic.

“I believe am (sic) entitled to my own opinion and should not be judged by it; no offence (sic) intended,” she concluded.
