There was palpable tension at Lorji Health Centre in Aboh Mbaise, Imo State, as Imo Commissioner for Health, Dr. Prosper-Ohayagha, and the Imo Commissioner for Homeland Security and Vigilante Affairs, Dr. Ugorji Okechukwu Ugorji, stormed the health centre on a fact-finding mission on Thursday.

The duo embarked on the mission following a report by News Band which revealed how the Community lamented the horrible renovation work going on in the health center despite the state government’s intervention.

The report also showcased the shabby road construction ongoing in the area.

It stated that Lorji Autonomous Community and Lorji Nwekeukwu Autonomous Community, both in Aboh Mbaise Local Government Area jointly cried foul over the renovation of their Health Center and awarded road handled by the IMC Chairman and Council members.

The report observed that the outcome runs contrary to the wise decision of the Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, to uplift the area but was sabotaged by the contractors.

Consequently, Dr. Prosper-Ohayagha and Dr. Ugorji visited the Lorji Health Centre for fact-finding and a visibly shaken staff of the health center were seen taking others and stuttering while answering questions from the visibly angry Health Commissioner.

Reacting in a brief memo after the fact-finding mission, Ugorji, also known as Odoziobodo, said:

“It was with a great sense of (public service) duty, as well as gratitude to Chukwu for journey mercies, that my distinguished colleague, Dr. Success Prosper-Ohayagha, and I visited the historic town of Lorji today. We went on a fact-finding mission to our health centre at Lorji.

“As Chinua Achebe (may his gallant soul rest in honour and power) told us, we must stand like the anthills of the Savannah to tell the green grasses of today about the brushfires of yesterday. The brushfires of yesterday included public robbery in the guise of public service.

“And as Dr. Prosper-Ohayagha told me on our way to Lorji, a clean conscience has nothing to fear about accountability.

“I am honoured to be in Governor Uzodimma’s administration and I guard the image of his administration jealously. I am willing to sacrifice my position to preserve his.

“As we move forward with the push for excellence and accountability in public service, different kinds of mud will be thrown at me. Please don’t worry about that and don’t worry about me.

“Forgive young folks who know not what they are doing. We shall yet transform them and turn them into an Army of genuine public servants. I promise.

“When we fight evil, evil will fight back ferociously. I cannot imagine a greater evil than to share materials and funds earmarked for the greater good and the improvement of our people’s lives, among a small, greedy crew.

“As a people, we must invest heavily in grooming leaders in the manner we desire them. A people who do not actively train their future leaders, or a people who leave their leadership cadre to accidents, will have little progress.

“Some say that our little effort is already a revolution. I say no. I am a progressive, not a revolutionary.

“I want to assure you that I am prepared to pay whatever prize in order to get public service in our neck off the woods right. As my man Fifty would say (and I paraphrase), we will get it right or die trying.

“Please pray for those who are throwing mud. Every water shall find it’s level. Winter is coming though.

“Ndewo nu. Udo Chukwu diri unu!” he concluded.
