Senate Disbands Buhari’s Parliamentary Support Group [Update]

The Nigerians Senate has, on Thursday, disbanded a group known as the “Parliamentary Group Support for Buhari.

The development comes few days after President Muhammadu Buhari declared his intentions to contest in the 2019 presidential election.

The disbandment follows a statement by Senator Ovie Omo-Agege that the amendment of sequence of the elections by the National Assembly is targeted at President Muhammadu Buhari.

COnsequent upon that statement, the Senate suspended Senator Omo-Agege for 90 legislative days.

Parliamentary Group Support for Buhari has Senator Abdullahi Adams as its chairman, while Omo-Agege is the Secretary of the group.

Senate decision was sequel to the report submitted by Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions chaired by Samuel Anyanwu.

The Committee in its report recommended 180 legislative days suspension for Senator Omo-Agege.

But, Senate while considering the recommendation reduced it to 90 legislative days.
