The Federal Government has released suspected members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) arrested by officers of the Nigerian Army since February 27, 2020, at Imo River community in Abia State.

Those released include Sunday Nwafor, 59 years, Uzonwanne Ejiofor 48 years, and Wilfred Dike, 36 years.

It is not yet clear how many of them were released exactly as at press time but those released have been held incommunicado in Army detention facilities for over two and half years.

According to Amnesty International Nigeria, they were held at 14 Brigade Nigerian Army Ohafia, Abia State for well over two and half years.

Their release followed Amnesty International’s campaign and call for their freedom as recently as two weeks ago.

The international rights organisation urged the Nigerian authorities to provide information about the status of other victims of enforced disappearance and incommunicado detention.

It also demanded that the government grant their families and lawyers access to them, charge them to court, or release them from detention.
