Unknown gunmen have abducted two persons at Alor in Idemili South Local Government Area, Anambra State, and reportedly thrown them headlong off the bridge.
One of the victims was rescued by passers-by alive with the help of the local vigilante, who debriefed him, while the other did not survive.
The second victim, however, did not make it.
His lifeless body was later found covered with debris from flood and mud in the drainage system.
The spokesperson for the Anambra State Police Command, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the incident in a statement.
DSP Ikenga noted that the victim had been rescued, while the body of the deceased has been deposited in a mortuary.
He said: “The man was rescued and he is currently receiving treatment in the hospital. He was later identified and reunited with the family members.
“Meanwhile, the second victim has been taken to the morgue and investigation has since commenced.”
The victims, according to reports, were abducted on Sunday along Nnobi—Nnewi Road from where they were taken to Alor and thrown into River Obiaja.
Narrating his ordeal, the surviving victim, Mr. Benjamin Okafor, said he was driving to his hometown, Amichi, in Nnewi South Local Government Area, with one other person, before they were abducted about 9:00 p.m.
He said the abductors, after driving midway, threw them into the bridge but he landed on a hard spot and eventually survived.
According to the surviving victim, he sustained various degrees of injuries all over his body.
