Troops have reportedly eliminated Dogo Gide, a notorious bandit commander in the North West of Nigeria.

A former presidential assistant, Bashir Ahmed confirmed the death of Dogo in a post on his official X handle on Wednesday.

According to Bashir, the terror leader died from gunshot wounds sustained during exchange of gunfire with the Nigerian Army’s Operation Hadarin Daji (OPHD) forces.

He said, “Woke up to the good news that Dogo Gide, has finally kicked the bucket. The notorious bandits leader died from gunshot wounds sustained during a confrontation with Operation Hadarin Daji (OPHD) forces.”

Gide, one of Nigeria’s most wanted bandits, is responsible for the kidnapping and deaths of hundreds of innocent villagers and the displacement of people.

It was gathered that his operational headquarters rotate among states in the North West, especially Sokoto, Zamfara, Kebbi, and Katsina.

Recall that in August of 2023, Dogo claimed responsibility for shooting down a surveillance helicopter of Nigeria Air Force that crashed in Badna, Chukuba ward of Shiroro local government area of the State.

The MI-171 helicopter was on a casualty evacuation mission before it crashed.

Daily Trust reported that the Dogo Gide and his foot soldiers claimed they were responsible for downing the helicopter in a two-minute-seventeen-second video.

The terrorists claimed the military helicopter was shot down with an AK47 weapon.

The narrator who spoke Hausa, said the terrorists belonged to Dogo Gide group.
