Security personnel are heavily present in Jos as Plateau’s governorship election petitions tribunal delivers judgment.
Security personnel were stationed in key locations.
Armed security personnel were particularly stationed on the premises of the Plateau High Court.
“This is to ensure that the existing peace in the state is not tampered with in any way. We are not interested in politics but to ensure that the peace we are currently enjoying in the state is sustained,” said DSP Alfred Alabo, spokesman for the police in Plateau. “So, this deployment is not to intimidate anyone, but to ensure nobody takes laws into their hands.”
Litigants and their lawyers arrived at the tribunal as early as 8:00 a.m.
The judgment is in a petition filed by the All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial candidate, Nentawe Yiltwatda.
The petition challenges the victory of Governor Caleb Mutfwang, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in the March 18 election.
