Three arrested for theft of sewing machine heads in Borno

On Thursday morning, the Borno State Police Command arrested three suspects for stealing 19 sewing machine heads.

Significantly, one suspect worked as a security guard at the targeted Dala Lawanti Skills Acquisition Center.

Authorities acted swiftly after discovering the theft at the Maiduguri vocational center.

Meanwhile, investigators revealed the guard had collaborated with two accomplices to remove the equipment.

Police recovered some machines shortly after apprehending the suspects. Additionally, they continue searching for remaining items while processing the case for prosecution.

Notably, this center empowers youth and women through vocational training, making it a crucial community resource.

According to police reports, the theft occurred on March 22 when the guard, 34-year-old Kaka Modu Mustapha, allegedly collaborated with two teenagers—Bukar Mustapha (16) and Ibrahim Mohammed (17). Furthermore, the suspects removed the machines at night, avoiding immediate detection.

So far, authorities have recovered six sewing machine heads, and investigations continue to locate the remaining items. Meanwhile, the suspects remain in custody and will face prosecution once the inquiry concludes.

The Dala Lawanti Skills Acquisition Center provides essential vocational training to underprivileged individuals, making the theft particularly damaging. Consequently, the incident has sparked concerns about security at similar facilities that promote economic empowerment.

Borno State Police Command have reassured the public that justice will be served, emphasizing their commitment to preventing future crimes. Additionally, they plan to strengthen security measures to protect vital community resources.

In summary, this case highlights the need for improved safeguards at vocational centers. Moreover, it underscores the importance of holding perpetrators accountable to ensure such institutions can continue serving vulnerable populations effectively.
