Stop washing raw meat, WHO warns
The World Health Organisation (WHO) has stirred a serious debate after it warned the general public against washing raw meat.
WHO gave the warning in a health information posted on the organization’s official Facebook page.
“Wash fruits and vegetables with clean water.
“Do not wash raw meat, as this can spread harmful microorganisms to hands, surfaces, utensils, or other food”, the warning reads.
The advice came as a rude shock to many most of whom have washed their meat all their lives.
Some commenters, however, supported the WHO’s position and argued that raw beef, chicken, turkey, and other meat should not be washed because the process of washing them spreads bacteria.
Many expressed confusion about the correct position, especially when some meat comes with dirt.
They wonder how such meat can be cooked without the dirt being washed off.
