Presidential aspirants of South East extraction under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have met and are reportedly moving towards a consensus candidate.

The presidential aspirants held a meeting in Abuja at Senator Rochas Okorocha’s Unity House over the weekend where they deliberated on the best possible approach towards a South East candidate for the party’s 2023 presidential election.

Those in the meeting are Senator Ken Nnamani, former Imo State governor, Senator Rochas Okorocha, former Minister of State for Education, Hon Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba and the Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Dr Ogbonnaya Onu.

A pundit, who monitored the meeting, noted that there are indications that they may reach a consensus among themselves.

Conspicuously missing at the meeting, however, are the Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Nwabueze Ngige, the Governor of Ebonyi State and Chairman, South East Governor’s forum, Engr. David Nweze Umahi, et al.

In a related development, Hon Nwajiuba has declared Tinubu, Osinbajo, Amosun as unsuitable for Nigeria’s presidential game plan.

Speaking to THISDAY during an interview, Nwajiuba stated that fellow regional aspirants, Nnamani and Onu, are already disadvantaged by age and cannot fit the political equation.

He further argued that South West angling for power makes no sense and urged Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu,Vice president Yemi Osinbajo, Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, former Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, and the rest, to dump their ambitions.

Nwajiuba, however, described the South West contenders to the office of president as nice people but insisted that it made no sense for anyone from the South West to be pitching for the presidency of the country now, after former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s eight years in office and Osinbajo about to serve out another eight years as vice president.

More details of the interview will be published later. Stay tuned…
