Soludo’s govt approves N489m for night-landing equipment at Chinua Achebe Airport
The administration of governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo has approved ₦489 million for the installation of night-landing equipment at the Chinua Achebe International Airport in Umueri, Anambra East Local Government Area of the State.
The introduction of nighttime operations, by the state government, follows extensive preparations and approval for the installation of airfield lighting to ensure the highest safety standards for both pilots and passengers.
The Commissioner for Information Law Mefor, announced the decision during the 34th Anambra State Executive Council meeting.
He stated, “The Anambra State Executive Council has adopted measures, including the installation of Airfield Lighting at Chinua Achebe International Airport to facilitate night landings.”
The contract for this airfield lighting project has been awarded to Mercy Aviation Communication Electronics and Industries Nig Ltd, with a total value of ₦489,716,250 and an expected completion timeline of just two weeks.
Also, in addition to the airport improvements, the council approved several other significant projects:
The Heritage and Tourism Master Plan : Awarded to Red Clay Consulting for ₦125,807,290.63.
Reconstruction of COOU Teaching Hospital Gate: Contract awarded to Triseconds Resources Ltd. for ₦112,700,000, expected to be completed in two months.
Power Supply Enhancements: For the Anambra Mix-Use Industrial City at a cost of ₦1,742,706,051.91.
Installation of a Dedicated Injection Sub-Station : At Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University College of Medicine for ₦1,240,500,000.
Renovation of the Naval Base Complex: Located in Iyiowa Odekpe, Ogbaru, at a cost of ₦76,244,438.35.
Supply and Installation of UV-Resistant Chairs: At Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka, for ₦715,119,562.50.
Development of the Anambra State Solution Data Platform : For ₦97,087,625.
The Executive Council approved both kinetic and non-kinetic strategies aimed at enhancing security across the state to ensure a safer environment for all residents.
