By Christian Aburime
Anambra State Governor, Prof Chukwuma Charles Soludo was received by a massive jubilant crowd in Okpoko. He made good his promise on Friday, March 18, 2022 being his second day in office to visit the urban community
It will be recalled that this was one of his promises he made during the electioneering campaign, that he would visit Okpoko after being sworn into office as Governor of Anambra State
He fulfilled that promise and was accompanied by the Deputy Governor Dr Onyekachukwu Ibezim, the newly appointed Secretary to the State Government, Prof Solo Chukwulobelu and Deputy Chief of Staff/ Chief Protocol, Hon Chinedu Nwoye.
Okpoko a community regarded as the biggest urban slumb in the state is located in Ogbaru Local Government Area. It is largely considered a place less conducive for human habitation because of its filthy environment with huge dump sites
Making good his promise, Governor Soludo took a personal assessment tour of the community and assured the inhabitants that he would begin immediate clean up of the environment and its urban renewal process to make it more habitable for the people of the community
Governor Soludo also used the occasion to ban the nefarious activities of touts popularly called “Agberos” in the State and the indiscriminate collection of taxes by unauthorised revenue collectors
He emphasised that collection of taxes will be modified through digital means so that all taxes will henceforth be paid directly into the state government coffers
He assured the people that immediate work will commence in the area as soon as all the principal officers of government are put in place
The Okpoko community later hosted Governor Chukwuma Soludo to express their gratitude and also thank him for making good his promise to visit Okpoko once he assumes office as Governor.
