Simon Ekpa will remain in prison until 2025 — Finnish govt
The government of Finland has announced that Mr Simon Ekpa, the self-acclaimed Prime Minister of Biafra Government in Exile, will remain in detention as his trial is scheduled to start in May 2025 after he was arrested for terror-related activities.
NewsBand reported that the rabble rouser agitator was taken into custody alongside four others suspected to be his financiers.
According to Mikko Laaksonen, Senior Detective Superintendent at Finland’s National Bureau of Investigation, the district court has set May 2025 as the deadline for prosecutors to lodge potential charges against Mr Ekpa.
The police chief confirmed that investigation is ongoing and that no further information can be shared in respect to that.
“Due to the ongoing investigation, no additional information can be disclosed. The district court has set May 2025 as the date for the prosecution to present possible charges,” he stated.
“In standard circumstances regarding remand, the next hearing can occur no sooner than two weeks after the previous one, should the involved parties request a re-evaluation by the district court”, he added.
Also, Finnish authorities further stressed that cross-border cooperation is crucial to the investigation. Officials have refrained from discussing the nature or extent of this international collaboration.
Moreover, a former chairperson of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Atlanta, United States, Mrs Ngozi Orabueze has taken over the baton of leadership from Simon Ekpa.
Ngozi who is a practicing nurse in the United States and Chief of Staff to Simon Ekpa, is holding forth in his absence.
