Senator representing Niger east, Mohammed Sani Musa has distanced himself from an alleged plot that he and some senators-elect are working to return Ahmad Lawan as president of the 10th senate.

In a statement on Monday, Musa, who is vying to be deputy senate president, said the report of the alleged plot is an attempt to cause disaffection between All Progressives Congress (APC) and Bola Tinubu, president-elect.

The senator said the claim is “a figment of the imagination of the hatched rumour mongers”, adding that he stands by the endorsement of his colleagues from the north-central who want to be deputy senate president.

He said, “I will not do anything contrary to the position of my colleagues which had been sanctioned and approved by the north-central governors.

” There was no meeting anywhere, where there was an agreement between me and other senators-elect to support the outgoing senate president and senator-elect, Osita Izunaso, to emerge senate president and deputy senate president of the incoming 10th senate presidency.”

The ruling party has since nominated Godswill Akpabio, a former minister of Niger Delta affairs, and Barau Jibrin, a senator representing Kano north, as president and deputy of the senate respectively.

However, some of those seeking leadership positions in the 10th assembly have kicked against the arrangement, arguing that they were not consulted.
