Chief Whip of the Senate, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, says the electricity crisis in Ohafia clan, Ohafia Local Government Area of Abia State is totally unacceptable.

Kalu, who is the Senator representing Abia North senatorial district vowed to tackle the crisis and have the community reconnected.

He also pledged to look into the problem of poor power supply to other communities around the senatorial district.

He stated this during the inauguration of the Ohafia Electricity Reconnection Committee at his Igbere residence on Monday evening.

Senator Kalu charged members of the committee to be committed and report their findings back to him in two weeks.

According to him, the blackout in Ohafia being the host community of the 14 Brigade of the Nigerian Army was unacceptable, vowing to tackle the issue comprehensively.

“It is my deepest pleasure to have you here. Ohafia is part of me in all aspects. I will do everything to make sure we solve the electricity issues affecting Ohafia and other communities in Abia North senatorial district.

“We are here to set up this committee and make sure we reconnect electricity in Ohafia and other Abia North communities. I will do everything to make sure the electricity is restored. It is unacceptable for Ohafia to be in blackout especially when we have the 14 Brigade there. This is not politics; it is about doing what is right.

Speaking on behalf of members of the committee, Chairman of the Committee, Chief Eme Uche Onuh commended Senator Kalu for looking into the electricity crisis affecting the communities, promising to make it a “point of duty”.

He said: “I know you have the capacity to tackle the electricity crisis in Ohafia and other parts of Abia North senatorial district. I am appreciating you on behalf of this committee and we shall make it a point of duty,” he said.
