Mrs. Fatima Dzuma has been arrested by the police over alleged murder of her 25-year-old husband, Baba Aliyu, in Lafiyagi Dzwafu village, in Katcha Local Government Area of Niger State.
She reportedly married Baba three years ago as second wife following her divorce from her first husband.
Though, the 27 year old suspect had not given birth to a child for Baba, while his first wife had recently delivered, and preparations for the naming ceremony were underway.
Sources familiar with the unfortunate incident revealed that the couple frequently had disagreements, and on the night of the killing, they had another altercation during which Baba physically assaulted Dzuma.
In a confession to the police, Dzuma explained that the fight occurred when she told her husband that she no longer loved him.
Following the argument, Baba beat her and then left the house. When he returned and went to bed, she took the opportunity to kill him.
“I used a rope to tie his neck, and he could not struggle. I hit him with a pestle three times, twice on his head and once on his hand. I took advantage of his sleeping because his sleep is always deep,” she admitted.
Afterward, Dzuma claimed she rolled his body into a mat, discarded it over the fence, and dragged it to a nearby bush in the backyard. She then returned to clean the blood and excrement from the scene.
When Baba’s family began searching for him, Dzuma initially denied having knowledge of his whereabouts.
However, she eventually confessed to the murder three days later.
The Niger State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Wasiu, confirmed that Baba’s body was found in a nearby bush.
“She confessed that she used a pestle to hit her husband while he was asleep and later tied the deceased with clothes and rope before rolling the corpse to a nearby bush in a mat,” said Wasiu.
The body was later taken to the general hospital in Bida for a post-mortem examination, while Dzuma was placed in police custody.
She will soon be transferred to the SCID Minna for further investigation and prosecution.
