Samson Ogbos emerges president of Imo Town Unions

The election of the state executives of Association of Imo State Indigenous Town Union (AISITU) has been conducted.

The election which took place on Saturday at the Town Union’s secretariat on Egbu Road , Owerri saw the emergence of Chief Samson Ogbos as the President General of AISITU.

Chief Samson Ogbos polled 14 votes to defeat his rival, Chief Monday Ikokwu who scored 11 votes. The total votes cast were 25.

While declaring Chief Ogbos as the new President General of the association, the Chairman of AISITU Electoral Committee, Chief Chris Chikwe, said that the candidates and voters were thoroughly screened hence the electoral process was open, free and fair.

Only Presidents of President-Generals (POP) from the local government areas in the state were allowed to vote, he said.

Addressing members of the town union, the National President, Association of South East Town Union (ASETU) and outgoing President-General of AISITU, Chief Emeka Diwe, thanked security agents and others who took part in ensuring that the election was successful.

While congratulating those who won, he described the town union as agent of peace which was why the election was peaceful.

Chief Diwe said that the town union has a way of resolving grievances.

He said that the date for the inauguration of the new executives will soon be announced.

Chief Monday Ikokwu from Okigwe Zone who lost to the newly- elected President General however raised some objections regarding the election process.

The PG elect in his brief remarks:, said that he will work hard to ensure that the grassroots which make up the town union reaped the benefits from elected government officials.
