Over six civilians have been killed following an attack by suspected bandits on Tudun Doki village in Gwadabawa local government area of Sokoto State.

The unfortunate attack occurred in the wee hours of Sunday, coinciding with the celebration of Eid-el-Kabir by Muslims worldwide.

The spokesman of the command in Sokoto, Mr Ahmed Rufai reported that the attack resulted in six deaths, with the number of people abducted still unknown.

“The village is far from the main town, making access difficult due to the terrain. Most operations in the area rely on motorcycles,” Rufai explained.

The incident disrupted the Eid-el-Kabir festivities as villagers were heading to mosques.

The victims were transported to a hospital where they were confirmed dead.

Meanwhile, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) and his team have been mobilized to determine the exact number of abducted individuals.

Sokoto State has experienced a surge in kidnapping and bandit attacks in recent months. In March, 15 Tsangaya students were kidnapped in Gidan Bakuso, Gada LGA, and were released after 13 days in captivity.

Meanwhile, the authorities are intensifying efforts to tackle the rising insecurity in the region, as the community mourns the loss and awaits further developments regarding the kidnapped individuals.
