Idara Bassey, the medical doctor declared wanted by police authorities in Lagos State in connection with the death of a 36-year-old woman during a buttock enlargement surgery at a clinic in Lekki Phase 1, has been arrested.

According to the spokesman of the command in Lagos, Mr Benjamin Hundeyin, Bassey is currently being investigated at the State Criminal Investigation Department in Panti.

The medical doctor had eloped after her patient, Abiola, died during a buttock enlargement procedure at her clinic on August 26, 2024.

The nurse who administered an injection to the late 36-year-old had earlier been arrested, but the clinic’s owner disappeared and was declared wanted by the police.

The late patient, Abiola had visited the clinic for the buttock enlargement procedure.

On the date set for the procedure, Abiola left her home in the Diamond Estate, Sangotedo, in the Ibeju Lekki area and asked her driver to take her to the clinic

All was said to be going well until a nurse, allegedly acting under Bassey’s orders, administered an injection.

Abiola reportedly became uncomfortable and it got worse, to the point that she became unconscious and was gasping for breath, according to the patient’s driver who reported the matter to the police.

The police later visited the hospital where the nurse who administered the injection was picked up.

The doctor was nowhere to be found. She was equally not available at her residence.
