Troyes 0 Paris Saint-Germain 9 (Cavani 13, 75; Pastore 17; Rabiot 19; Ibrahimovic 46, 52, 55, 88; Saunier 58)

Paris claimed the sixth French title in the club’s history with a 9-0 stroll over ESTAC Troyes at the Stade de l’Aube on Sunday afternoon.

The Parisians were crowned champions with eight matches left to play, a European record to their impressive list of achievements.

In fact, never before in France – or anywhere else in Europe – has a club been crowned champions so early on in a season!

Four goals from Zlatan Ibrahimovic helped Paris to clinch their record fourth successive Ligue 1 title, thus becoming the first team to win the championship after 30 matches.

Ibrahimovic’s sensational nine-minute hat trick followed first-half goals from Edinson Cavani, Javier Pastore and Adrien Rabiot.

Following the interval Matthieu Saunier scored an own goal while Cavani and Ibrahimovic also added late efforts.

PSG moved up to 77 points, 25 clear of second-place Monaco, winning the league with eight games still to play.

The championship is the sixth in the club’s history and the fastest-ever Ligue 1 victory, breaking the record set by Gerard Houllier’s Olympique Lyonnais in 2007, who won the title after 33 matches.

On the domestic level, Paris Saint-Germain crushed Olympique Lyonnais’ record of claiming the crown with five matches left to play, set back in season 2006-07.

But at the same time, the capital club also set a new European record, outdoing the Bayern Munich side that claimed the Bundesliga title with seven matches left to play in 2014.

The win saw the Red and Blues beat the standing record of 12 away wins in a single Ligue 1 season, held by Saint-Etienne (1969-1970), Marseille (1971-1972 and 2008-2009), Lyon (2005-2006 and2006-2007) and the capital club themselves (2012-2013 and 2013-2014).

The Parisians can still improve on this statistic, having three  Ligue 1 away games toi play before the end of the season: Guingamp, Bordeaux and Ajaccio.
