Prosecute #IgboMustGo campaigners in Lagos now — PGGD tells FG
PVC Initiative for Good Governance Diaspora (PIGGD) has reacted angrily to the hateful #IgboMustGo campaign being championed in Lagos State by some unscrupulous elements.
The campaign started after Nigerians called for nationwide protest over rising economic hardship and bad governance.
The hateful campaign orchestrated by Lagospedia on its official X handle, urged Lagosians and Yoruba stakeholders to prepare for a mass protest against the Igbo community, demanding they relocate their businesses from the region.
Lagospedia accused Igbo of orchestrating the nationwide hunger protest in Lagos. The protest against Igbo tribe is slated next for week.
It also called for Yorubas living in the Southeast to return home.
Although, the Igbo tribe stayed away from the nationwide protest, but the X account believed that the Lagos state protest was championed by the Igbo tribe.
However, in response to the call, the president/convener of PIGGD comrade Wisdom Opara, also known as Chukwuemeziem Ekete, has questioned the silence and inaction that followed the announcement against the Igbo tribe by the authorities.
“Atiku spoke before we saw a disclaimer from the Lagos State government. The announcement was made since, and the state government kept mum. By keeping quiet, it passed a message that the state government endorsed it. After Atiku had talked about it, the state government of Lagos reacted and distanced itself. We are no longer asking for words, we want action, we want the campaigners prosecuted accordingly” the statement partly reads.
The PIGGD president further spoke on the need to address the root cause of such act as it could lead to a dangerous incident in the country.
“We are all Nigerians, and patriotic Nigerians. This kind of genocidal statement could lead to killings and attacks on Igbo people in Yoruba land. Igbo populated market got burnt after this Igbo must go campaign”, he added.
Speaking further, he said that the country is sitting on a keg of gunpowder with such statement and the events going on in the country.
“The Southeast stayed away from protest. The north is on it. Some part of Yoruba stayed away, so, when you take a closer look at the situation, the country is divided, deeply divided, genocidal statement could be the spark for the country to implode”.
The convener of the UK based group further said that Nigeria must change it’s style of government to address such issues.
“We are looking for solutions, and we want trust among the regions. Regional government can put to bed such challenges and eradicate the threat of regional flare ups. This is why we support President Bola Amed Tinubu’s constitution review promise. Take a look at United Kingdom and United States. States are independent in US, while regions are independent in UK, and answer to the centre. Take the military to the center and allow regions show their patriotic best”, the statement urged.
The group which believes in good governance through the ballot said change is important to get the best out of the country.
“We need to change and explore other options available to us. There should be trust and patriotism. That is what our country needs to get over this genocidal threats”.
