A West African Examinations Council (WAEC) candidate in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, has died after he was fatally struck by a stray bullet fired by an irresponsible police officer while they were chasing Yahoo boys.

The unfortunate incident, News Band gathered, occurred on Tuesday morning along Gbagi Market Road.

According to eyewitnesses, the officers were pursuing a vehicle suspected to be occupied by internet fraudsters—Yahoo Boys.

During the pursuit, one of the officers opened fire, tragically, one of the bullets strayed and hit a teenage student riding on a motorcycle with his twin brother.

The student was on his way to sit for his WAEC examination when he was shot.

He was immediately rushed to Welfare Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Meanwhile, in the aftermath of the shooting, enraged traders and grieving sympathizers trooped to the Oyo State Secretariat, carrying the boy’s body in protest.

The demonstration quickly gathered momentum, with protesters demanding justice and an overhaul of reckless police practices that continue to cost innocent lives.

At the time of filing this report, security operatives have since been drafted to the Secretariat entrance to manage the growing crowd.

However, Oyo State police command is yet to issue an official statement in respect to the development.
