Police authorities in Anambra State have arrested a member of a syndicate involved in trafficking children aged 13-16 years to neighboring countries such as Ghana and Benin Republic.

The arrest follows growing concerns from the Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, over reports of missing persons, particularly in Okpoko and Onitsha.

Mr Tochukwu Ikenga, the spokesman of Anambra command in a statement said the police acted on these concerns and conducted a targeted operation.

As a result, one victim has been safely returned from Accra, Ghana, and debriefed.

The arrested suspect is now being interrogated at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Awka.

He said the ongoing investigation aims to rescue other victims and identify additional members of the trafficking ring.

Ikenga added that the police will continue to work diligently to address the issue and prevent further instances of child trafficking in the region.
