Police launches new strategies to combat Kidnapping

In a decisive move to enhance internal security and protect citizens, the Nigeria Police Force has reiterated its commitment to re-strategize operations aimed at curbing kidnapping and related crimes nationwide.

A press statement from Force FPRO ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi in Abuja revealed this information on Wednesday through his X platform.

On December 31, 2024, police operatives demonstrated their determination during a successful hostage rescue operation in Kwande.

They neutralized three kidnappers and rescued their victim, showcasing their commitment to public safety.

Officials initiated the operation after receiving a distress call about the armed abduction of Tor Gajir in Kwande LGA.

Quick to respond, officers from the Vandiekya Police Divisional Headquarters swiftly began investigations that led them to a suspect named Desmond Ahar.

Upon interrogation, Ahar provided information about the location of the victim, prompting police operatives to act.

Upon arriving at the kidnappers’ hideout in Adikpo, the police were met with gunfire from the kidnappers.

Nevertheless, through skillful execution, the officers managed to neutralize three suspects, while others escaped with injuries.

They rescued the victim, who remained unharmed. Immediately, medical personnel provided care to address any potential physical effects.

Additionally, they ensured psychological support was available to help the victim cope with the traumatic experience effectively.

The operation also resulted in the recovery of two AK-47 rifles, six loaded magazines, and various rounds of ammunition.

The police are now intensifying efforts to apprehend the remaining gang members.

In another related operation on December 28, 2024, in Nasarawa State, police discovered an abandoned vehicle along the Keffi-Kaduna Highway.

Following leads, they located two hostages, who were rescued unharmed, and efforts are ongoing to capture their abductors.

On January 7, 2025, police operatives from Bayelsa State apprehended Usman Mohammed as he headed to Rivers State.

They conducted a thorough search of his vehicle, uncovering an AK-47 rifle, a Type 09 AR, and concealed ammunition.

The authorities have taken the suspect into custody while investigations continue into the incident.

Inspector-General of Police IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun praised the police officers’ dedication and bravery during these operations.

The IGP urged citizens to remain vigilant and actively participate in maintaining public safety and security across Nigeria.
