Police in Ogun State have arrested a 45-year-old man identified as Lekan Akinyemi for being in possession of a human skull.
His arrest was announced by the spokesman of the command, Omolola Odutola, on Tuesday in Abeokuta.
The suspect was taken into custody by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Adatan division.
According to the police image maker, the suspect allegedly exhumed the grave of the late Saubana Balogun at Isale Itoko, Abeokuta, and removed the skull for ritual purposes.
“The State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) has taken over the case and will begin a thorough investigation to uncover the details surrounding the incident”, Odutola said
He assured the general public that the police are committed to getting to the bottom of this heinous act.
“One Lekan Akinyemi has been arrested by DPO Adatan for being in possession of a human skull. He dug the grave of the late Saubana Balogun at Isale Itoko, Abeokuta, and detached the skull. SCID will investigate,” Odutola added.
Meanwhile, this incident highlights the ongoing issue of ritualistic practices in some parts of Nigeria, and the police have reiterated their commitment to cracking down on such activities to ensure public safety.
