PHOTOS: Senate holds valedictory session for late Senator Ubah
The Nigerian Senate, on Tuesday, suspended its plenary session to honour the late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah.
Ifeanyi Ubah before his death represented Anambra South in the National Assembly.
The casket bearing the remains of the lawmaker lay in state at the foyer of the White House wing, directly in front of the Senate Chamber.
The day’s order paper featured only one item: “Valedictory Session.”
Meanwhile, in a show of respect, Senate President Godswill Akpabio appeared in traditional Isi-Enyi apparel, paired with a matching red cap and dark sunglasses.
Also, Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele wore Isi-Agwu attire.
During the service, Godswill Akpabio started by zeroing in attention to the seat of their former colleague, draped with the Nigerian flag and four symbolic candles.
He noted that the day has been dedicated to the memory of the late Anambra Senator who died on the 26th of July, 2024 at the age of 52.
He further described the late businessman as a visionary with extraordinary empathy for all and a champion for economic empowerment and community development.
Akpabio described Ubah’s death as a huge deficit in the political terrain of the country.
Vice President Kashim Shettima, former Anambra State Governor Chris Ngige, and former Anambra Central Senator Uche Ekwunife were among those in attendance.
The wives of presiding and principal Senate officers were also present, including Ekaette Akpabio, wife of the Senate President; Hajiya Jibrin Barau, wife of the Deputy Senate President; and Oluyemisi Bamidele, wife of the Senate Leader.
