PDP warns sacked LG Chairmen against destabilizing Osun state
The PDP forcefully warned ousted APC chairpersons against destabilizing Osun State following Monday’s violent clashes that killed five supporters.
Ologunagba condemned former APC officials for violently attempting office reoccupation after court-ordered removal, warning their defiance risks escalated conflict.
Violence erupted when sacked officials stormed government offices, falsely asserting court-mandated reinstatement amid growing political tensions.
Asserting its legal stance, the PDP declares the Court of Appeal definitively nullified the appointments as unconstitutional violations of due process.
Meanwhile, the party directly accuses Minister Gboyega Oyetola of orchestrating efforts to reinstate ousted officials through proxy political maneuvers.
Additionally, Governor Ademola Adeleke denounces the APC for escalating state tensions through what he calls “undemocratic interference” in judicial outcomes.
Simultaneously, Osun’s National Assembly caucus demands federal intervention to halt alleged collusion between former appointees and opposition factions.
This accusation highlights the political strife affecting the region.
Ologunagba criticized the APC, calling it a “desperate attempt” to destabilize Osun state after losing public support. He emphasized that the Court of Appeal’s judgment sealed the fate of the ousted politicians, nullifying Oyetola’s unconstitutional actions in appointing them as local government officers.
The PDP spokesperson contended that the APC’s disregard for constitutional provisions and election laws contributed to its current challenges. He urged the party to accept its losses and prepare for the upcoming local government elections organized by the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC).
Instead of resorting to violence and “self-help,” the party should focus on constructive actions.
Additionally, Ologunagba called on the APC to stop invoking President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s name to gain political sympathy.
He emphasized that Nigeria operates under a federal system. In this system, individual states manage local government elections, as the Constitution outlines.
“The APC should not involve President Tinubu or the federal government in matters that Osun state exclusively manages,” he stated. “If the APC genuinely believes in its popularity in Osun, it should prepare for elections rather than relying on unfounded accusations and inciting violence.”
Furthermore, the PDP urged security agencies to investigate Monday’s violence thoroughly. They stressed the importance of ensuring that those responsible for the killings face justice.
They underscored the importance of accountability and actions needed to restore peace to the region.
As tensions continue to escalate in Osun state, political observers are closely monitoring how both parties navigate this volatile situation ahead of the upcoming local government elections.
. The decisions made during this period will significantly impact the political landscape in the region.
