…says some Kaduna LGs don’t have banks

The governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-rufai, has asked the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, to extend the January 31 deadline for the acceptance of the old Naira notes, stressing that the timing is too short.

The governor noted that some local government areas in the state do not have access to financial services.

According to Channels TV reports, the governor made the call during an interview with reporters in the Kubau Local Government Area of the state.

While insisting that it is impossible for local farmers and traders in most of the communities in the state to meet up with the CBN deadline on depositing their old Naira notes, Mr El-Rufai noted that many local government areas don’t have any bank presence.

Mr El-Rufai stressed that the rural communities must be given more opportunities to exchange their old Naira notes.

The governor charged the central bank and other financial institutions to find a way of swapping the old Naira notes in the rural communities, adding that access to bank branches in those areas is limited.
