*Calls for Igbo presidency*

*Supports President Buhari

We are duty bound as the representative and voice of the youth of one of the largest, most homogeneous and highly productive tribe in Nigeria. Equally, it remains indispensable clear that as major stakeholders in the Nigeria Project, we are circumstantially compelled to take a definitive stand and position on issues that have the ability to threaten our corporate existence as one indivisible nation.

Following agitations of neglect in the political appointments made thus far by the President Muhammadu Buhari administration from our compatriots in the south east, the needless call for the secession from Nigeria by MASSOB, the activities of Nnamdi Kanu under the aegis of indigenous people of Biafra (IPOB),and his Radio Biafra, his arrest and the simultaneous coordinated protest rallies that followed as the its aftermath, it is of great concern to us and calls for caution and deeper reflection for us as people and nation.

To the extent that we are not satisfied in the happenings in the polity particularly as it affects our region, it remains imperative that we submit our yearnings with a voice of reason. It stands as an immutable and sacrosanct fact that the unified and continuous existence of Nigeria as an indivisible entity cannot be compromised on any score. The hyperactive agitators and proponents of secession perhaps have not Sat down to count the cost of a divided nation which will be borne by the Igbos nation particularly our Youth whose future and strenuously built investments stand at risk.

The business concerns of Igbo businessmen and women extend across all geopolitical zones of the country the north and south, these meticulously built investments running into trillions of naira cannot be mortgaged on the plinth of unbridled sentimental proclivities, as we believe that Mr. President is a listening Leader and we can achieve more through peaceful dialogue.

The snippets of agitations and disenchantment building up in certain quarters of the Igbo nation are not to be entirely faulted as it is the result years of compounded neglect. It is our fervid belief that if these issues are logically, tactfully and speedily addressed, it will go a long way in soothing away any brewing grievance.it is on this note we use this medium to reiterate our charter of demands which require expedient action presently. Our position is herein under stated:

(1). Irrespective of the intellectual dexterity and enterprising spirit of the average Igbo, our youth have been tactfully neglected in terms of employment opportunities with the worst unemployment rate due to a weakened Federal government presence in the south east zone. We therefore call on Mr. President to effectuate a more proportionate employment policy in favour of the Igbo youth. More so, areas of youth empowerment for enterprise should be accelerated through credit and grants schemes using available platforms like Bank of Industry, Bank of Agriculture, National Housing fund etc.

(2).Despite the oil producing status of Abia, Anambra and Imo States, the youths from these concerned States of Abia, Anambra and Imo have been consistently excluded from the Amnesty program of federal government which several Niger delta youth presently enjoy.it is on this note that we call on Mr. President to ensure that the Amnesty program is extended to the youth of these oil producing South eastern states.

(3).We call on Mr. President to correct the lopsided appointments made thus far by ensuring the appointment of more Igbo citizens into sensitive government position as Head of government boards and Agencies. May we on this note make our pressing demand that the Head of the Civil Service of the federation be appointed from the south east to ensure balance and equity in the top hierarchy of our nation.

(4). The state of federal roads and other infrastructure remain lamentably deplorable, stalling socio economic activities and constituting death traps, key roads such as Enugu-PH Express way, Enugu-Onitsha Express way, Aba-Uyo-Calabar Express way, Aba-Owerri Express way, Umuahia-Arochukwu highway, Okigwe-Arondizuogu-Uga highway amongst others requires urgent attention as most of these roads have been taken by weeds, craters and deep gullies. We deserve better roads to further boost efficiency in economic activities.

(5).it is of prime importance that critical infrastructure such as airport, seaports, bridges, etc. be developed to full potentials to further boost business activities. The Enugu International airport should be fitted with the requisite facilities to meet with international standards. The Onitsha River port is underutilized and needs to be fully on stream, there’s need for inland river ports at Oguta(Imo State)and Azumini (Abia state). The Imo River needs to be dredged also, and the second Niger bridge which have been over politicized should be built to serve the region properly.

(5).Dialogue has proven to be a veritable and effectual tool for dousing tensions and quelling violence. We therefore call on the proponents of MASSOB to desist from using guerrilla antics capable of casting the Igbo nation in bad light, rather Nnamdi Kanu and his group, if they truly seek the good of Igbo Nation should peacefully bring their demands to the table of diamond where their grievances can be heard and accorded due attention.

Nigeria as a nation is at the crest of her most challenging times and our Leaders need the most support, advice and guidance of the discerning citizenry now more than ever. It is on this note that we pledge our unflinching support to masses oriented programs of President Muhammadu Buhari. We are calling on all Igbo sons and daughters to rally their unwavering support for President Muhammadu Buhari because we believe in him the yearnings of the Igbo nation will be met. We believe he is the only President that will remain true to the promise of actualizing the IGBO PRESIDENT after his tenure. He is a man of honor and candour that can trust to actualize our quest for inclusive governance. It is our steadfast believe that Mr. President will heed our passionate calls and grant our prayers in good time as we have here chronicled.

God bless Nigeria!

Signed:

Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro
