The government of Anambra State has said construction is still ongoing at Ochanja-Iweka road, contrary to the viral video alleging that the 2.3 kilometres road has washed off few weeks after inauguration by governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo.

A statement by the State government said work has reached advanced stage on the location.

It assured that the project will be completed in a record time.

The State Commissioner for Works, Engr. Ifeanyi Okoma who gave the assurance while addressing newsmen, stressed that the road is still under construction.

The Works Commissioner, who expressed shock over the viral video, explained that the road has not been  inaugurated by the state government as earlier reported by some section of the media.

Okoma noted that the contractor worked on Sunday and only about one foot from where he stopped was washed off as a result of the heavy downpour and blocked drainages along the road.

The Commissioner attributed the viral report to mischief makers who are bent on truncating the efforts of the state government in making Anambra a liveable and prosperous homeland.

For the Head of the contracting firm, Mr Mark Tu, he said it was a huge disappointment that someone took time to record such video, assuring that his firm has a good track record in the state and was committed to delivering quality road that would stand the test of time.

Speaking on the challenges encountered while constructing the road, Mr Tu appealed to residents and traders to stop dumping refuse into drainage channels, regretting that the washed portions were as a result of the blocked drainages.

Also, the Caretaker Committee Chairman, Fegge Landlords Association, Chief Obinwanne Okwudili lauded the efforts of the state government in constructing roads in the area, adding that the alleged failed portions of the road was still under construction.

Some traders and residents interviewed, commended the state government for the construction, expressing satisfaction with the quality of the already asphalted 1.7km road.

They however, said that the failed portion was as a result of blocked drainages before the downpour.
