Obi, Rufai, Aisha Yusufu, others to receive COPDEM Icons of Democracy Awards

Mr Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the last election alongside former Emir of Kano, Mr Sanusi Lamido Sanusi and former President, His Excellency Umaru Musa Yar ‘Adua have been nominated for the Committee for Protection of Democracy (COPDEM) Icons of Democracy Awards.

According to a statement jointly signed by Mr Rwang Pam Jr, National Chairman of COPDEM and it’s secretary general, Mrs Ebere Obiesie said that the event which is slated for Saturday, May 11, 2024, will be held at the Musa Yar’Adua Centre, Central Business District, Abuja, Nigeria.

Also, other projected recipients of the awards according to a report by Diaspora Digital Media (DDM), include the current bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Sokoto, Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah, Barrister Ifeanyi Nrialike and Arise News TV Presenter, Mr. Rufai Oseni.

The statement reads, “Dear Sir,

“INVITATION TO COPDEM’s ICONS OF DEMOCRACY AWARDS AND MEDIA DINNER

“The Coalition for Protection of Democracy (COPDEM) is pleased to invite you to COPDEM’s Icons of Democracy Awards’ and Media Dinner.

“Following Nigeria’s historic 2023 general elections, the Coalition for the Protection of Democracy (COPDEM) decided to recognize the efforts, sacrifices, and resilience of lovers of our country.

“100 Nigerians have been nominated in 10 categories. The nominees will receive certificates of recognition.

“Award winners will be announced at the Icons of Democracy & Scholarship Award Night and Media Dinner, that will take place as follows:

“Date: 11th of May 2024
Venue: Musa Yar’Adua Centre, Central Business District, Abuja, Nigeria
Time: 5:00 PM
