The Oluwo of Iwo, His Imperial Majesty, Oba (Dr) Abdul-Rasheed Adewale Akanbi, has written the Executive Governor of Osun State, Alhaji Isiaka Gboyega Oyetola, a fresh letter demanding fifty million Naira to enable him marry a Princess from Ado Bayero Emirate dynasty in Kano as extra wife.

Recall that Oba Adewale Akanbi had, in a previous letter, begged Governor Oyetola twenty million Naira to support him to marry the Kano Princess.

In the leaked letter, signed from the Office of the Special Adviser on Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, dated 8th February, 2022, titled “Notification of wedding and request for financial support“, the Oluwo of Iwo had notified the governor of his decision to marry the extra wife.

He noted that the “royal wedding within two notable traditional institutions in Nigeria will require huge expenses which necessitate support of state government financially, even logistically”.

“The estimated amount for the event is above (N20,000.000.00) twenty million Naira,” he had said.

The Osun State Government described the viral letter as a failed attempt by mischief makers to bring Oyetola and the Osun State Government into “a collision course with the citizens”.

However, in the latest letter signed by the Babalaje of Iwoland, Alhaji Kudaisi Ismail Toyin, the traditionally jerked up the solicited amount and demanding N50 million for the royal wedding

According to Alhaji Kudaisi, the new letter was a surprise arrangement by Oluwo’s chiefs to honour him, indicating that the monarch had no knowledge of it.

A copy of the letter dated February 7, 2022 and sighted by our correspondent, was titled ‘Notification of royal wedding of HRM, Oba, Dr. AbdulRasheed Adewale Akanbi Telu 1, and a princess of Ado Bayero Dynasty’.

The letter reads in part: “A few of the high chiefs of Iwoland have consequently mandated me to constitute a committee to plan and see to the success of the wedding with a befitting royal ceremony.

“At the inaugural meeting of the committee, we arrived at a modest tentative budget of N50 million to cover the traditional wedding, Tambaya (introduction); Kai Kaya (engagement) and Nikkai.

“The royal traditional wedding in Kano will be rounded up with a reception for the princess.”

The Osun State Government is yet to respond to the latest letter.
