The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) announced the arrest of an officer captured in a viral video holding bundles of Naira notes.

Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer, made this statement on Friday morning regarding the officer’s disciplinary action.

Nevertheless, he did not disclose the officer’s identity, maintaining some confidentiality concerning the case.

In the viral video, which emerged three days ago, the policeman appeared in his uniform holding cash bundles for Wahab Okoya. Wahab is the youngest son of Nigerian billionaire businessman Razaq Okoya and is aspiring to pursue a music career.

The event allegedly occurred at Okoya’s large mansion in Lekki, Lagos, with attendees including Wahab and one brother.

Netizens reacted strongly to the video, condemning the abuse of Naira by the Okoya brothers and the police officer’s involvement. Many less privileged Nigerians have faced arrest and prosecution by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for similar actions. Consequently, Adejobi condemned the policeman’s participation in the naira spraying, labeling it ‘unethical’ in his statement.

Furthermore, he vowed to prioritize upholding the sanctity, credibility, and core values of the police within the agency’s management. In a brief statement on the Nigeria Police Force’s X handle, Adejobi confirmed the detention of the officer for disciplinary measures.

“The policeman captured in the recent viral video shared by the sons of the lagos businessman, Chief Okoya, where they were abusing the naira, has been identified and detained for disciplinary action. The community condemned the policeman’s involvement as unethical.. We will always strive hard to uphold the sanctity, credibility, and core values of the police. Thanks.”

He emphasized the commitment to maintaining the police force’s integrity and ethical standards.
