The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr. Muhammad Musa Bello has announced that National Identification Number (NIN), henceforth, is mandatory for land allocation within FCT.

Mr. Bello said this in a statement issued by head of corporate communication of National Identity Management Commission [NIMC], Mr. Loveday Ogbonna, on Friday in Abuja, and made available to ElombahNews.

Mr. Ogbonna said that the decision was reached by the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA).

He stated that the Minister expressed the need for every land allocated to be matched to an individual through NIN.

This, according to him, is to track and prevent multiple allocations of land and ensure fairness and equity in the allocation process.

Bello commended the NIMC Director General, Engr. Aliyu Aziz, for the astronomical increase in enrollment figures.

He also commended the measures put in place to ensure safety of data of Nigerians and legal residents in the National Identity database (NIDB) while ensuring credibility and integrity of data collected.

He noted that the ongoing Harmonization effort is a step in the right direction to check duplication of functions amongst data collecting agencies.

Reacting, Aziz appreciated the Minister for the support he has rendered to NIMC and assured him of continued collaboration until the full objectives are achieved.

Some serious corporate organisations like the FRSC, NIS, CBN and other government agencies are already implementing the NIMC Act.

NIMC operates and regulates matters of national identity in Nigeria with services covering National Identification Number (NIN) enrolment and issuance, National e-ID card issuance, identity verification as well as data harmonization and authentication.

It says it is still issuing identity cards to people who have successfully completed the exercise.

It also said contrary to reports, it will invite individuals who have successfully completed the exercise to pick up their cards.
