Nigerians resident in London staged a protest against President Muhammadu Buhari’s second tern declaration for the 2019 presidential election on Tuesday.

The protesters gathered at the Abuja House in London.

Recall that President Buhari had, on Monday, declared his intention to run for second term despite calls from several highly-placed individuals asking him not to run.

Some of those that asked Buhari not to run include former President Olusegun Obasanjo, former Head of State, General Ibrahim Babangida, et al.

The protest ensued hours after Buhari declared his intention to contest for another term in office as president of Nigeria in 2019.

The presidency, however, said the protest was sponsored by supporters of alleged looters and corrupt elements within and outside the country.

A source in the presidency said those affected by Mr. Buhari’s anti-corruption crusade were jolted by his decision to seek re-election, “forcing them to push panic buttons including renting a motley crowd of professional demonstrators to protest against the President on his arrival into the United Kingdom.”

Buhari is in London on vacation where he is scheduled to visit Prime Minister Theresa May for bilateral talks.

He will also meet other dignitaries, including Nigerians in London to discuss matters of national interest.
