Nigerian aircraft catches fire, burns beyond repair

A Nigerian aircraft belonging to Overland Airways has caught fire, reports said.

Overland Airways operates scheduled domestic flight services within Nigeria.

Elombah News learnt that the plane caught fire at one of the General Aviation Terminal hangars at the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos.

Reports further said that the plane went up in flames while it was connected to the Group Ground Power Unit of the local airport.

It was gathered that there was explosion as the aircraft burned, sending splinters all over the airport.

No one has been reported hurt.

Fire services successfully doused the fire, though the plane reportedly burnt beyond redemption.

As of the time of filing this report, the corporate affairs unit of the Overland Airways has not issued any statement concerning the fire incident.

Information from it’s website states that Overland Airways an airline registered to operate charter and scheduled flights was incorporated on September 17, 1998.

The airline commenced operations in 2002 with the aim of increasing the prosperity of the Nigerian hinterland.

Its routes include: Lagos, Abuja, Ibadan, Ilorin, Akure, Dutse, Minna, Bauchi, Asaba and Jalingo.

Overland Airways has a fleet of 9 modern aircraft composed of ATR-42s, ATR-72s and Beechcraft 1900Ds which it deploys to various destinations in Nigeria, West and Central Africa.
