Nigeria awaits moon sighting to confirm Eid al-Fitr date- NSCIA

Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar

The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) has announced that fasting may extend into Sunday since the Shawwal crescent moon remains unseen.

Under the leadership of the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, the council confirmed that Eid al-Fitr’s date depends on verified moon sightings.

Muslims nationwide must therefore continue observing Ramadan until official confirmation.

In a Saturday statement, NSCIA Secretary-General Prof. Is-haq Oloyede urged Muslims to search for the crescent moon on Ramadan’s 29th night.

He clarified that if credible witnesses spot the moon, the Sultan will declare Sunday, March 30, 2025, as Eid al-Fitr.

The council strictly follows Islamic traditions in verifying moon sightings before making announcements.

Additionally, the NSCIA encouraged Muslims to remain patient and devoted while awaiting confirmation.

Eid al-Fitr, marking Ramadan’s end, holds deep spiritual significance for Muslims globally.

The festival celebrates a month of fasting, prayer, and self-discipline, making its declaration highly anticipated.

Authorities will provide updates once the moon-sighting process concludes.

Until then, Muslims should rely only on official announcements from the NSCIA.

The council assures the public that transparency and religious adherence guide its decisions.

Further developments will follow as moon-sighting reports emerge. The Sultan’s final declaration will determine when festivities begin. Muslims are advised to stay informed through credible sources. The NSCIA remains committed to upholding Islamic principles in this important observance.

The nation now waits for the confirmed sighting before celebrations can commence. Until an official statement is released, preparations for Eid should proceed cautiously. The council appreciates the public’s cooperation and understanding during this period.

Stay tuned for the latest updates on this significant religious event. The announcement will clarify when Eid prayers and festivities will officially take place. Muslims worldwide join Nigeria in anticipating this joyous occasion.
