The newly coronated traditional ruler of the Awka Ancient Kingdom and capital city of Anambra State, Obi Austine Ndigwe, Eze-Uzu 3rd has promised to return the community to the part of progress and massive development.

The natural ruler who was given a tumultuous reception by the crowd of enthusiasts and admirers during his maiden official outing at the Awka General Assembly(Izu Awka) yesterday promised to also restore the legendary blacksmith and educational prowess for which Awka was very well known in the past.

These, he disclosed would be the main thrust of his reign, geared towards meeting the yearnings of the people.

Obi Ndigwe who was crowned less than 24 hours earlier commended the people for their overwhelming support, prayers and outpouring messages of goodwill.

He specially thanked the kingmakers, the Otu Ozo, the Elders, the Youth/women Organizations and the Otochalu-Awka for finding him worthy of the onerous task of piloting the affairs of the community at a time like now.

He pledged an open door policy where tyranny, greed and impunity would would have no place. While unity would remain the strength of the community. 

That he would always be guided by the laws, custom and tradition of the community as well as oath/code of conduct which he swore to and signed.

That he was aware that it would only take the collective support for him to do it well.

Obi Ndigwe specifically thanked Ozo German Nwofor, and Ozo Anieze Chinwuba on behalf of all other illustrious sons and daughters of the community including the Awka Development Union both at home and in the diaspora, for their painstaking and dogged efforts to return the community on the path of peace and progress. He pledged not to fail, but to work hard to return the community to the path of rapid development and recovery from the ruins and neglect of the past.

According to him, he has already initiated moves for massive development in the area from the three tiers of government, international community/donor agencies, local and foreign investors so as to provide jobs to their youth.

Ndigwe however cautioned those sons and daughters of the community that had been usurping the collective goodwill of the people and trading in their welfare to desist forthwith in their own interest.
