Prison authorities at the Federal Capital Territory have arrested one Precious Yusuf for attempting to smuggle illicit drugs into the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Kuje, Abuja.

The arrest was disclosed in a statement by the spokesman of the custodial centre, Mr. Samson Duza on Wednesday.

He said Yusuf tried to enter the Kuje custodial centre on Tuesday, July 9, under the guise of visiting an inmate.

During the routine search carried out by the operatives at the centre, they discovered what appeared to be Indian hemp and other dangerous drugs hidden in food packs within a carton.

Yusuf confessed that she had been directed to deliver the illicit substances to an inmate.

Meanwhile, FCT Command Controller Ibrahim Usman has ordered that Yusuf be handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation and prosecution.

Usman issued a stern warning to drug traffickers to stop attempting to smuggle illegal substances into custodial centres under the pretense of visits. He assured the public that officers and men are vigilant and ready to thwart such efforts.

He also called on the general public and well-meaning Nigerians to support the Service in its mission to reform and maintain the safety of society. He assured the public of the secure custody of those legally detained.
