Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, Nigeria’s former Vice President, has alleged that Godswill Akpabio, who is the current Senate President, was not only corrupt during his tenure as a governor but also has a history of abusing women.
He made the scathing statement during an interview with Adesuwa Giwa-Osagie of Untold Stories.
According to Atiku, Akpabio is known to engage in such misconduct.
Before now, Senator Godswill Akpabio who was a former governor of Akwa-Ibom State, faced allegations of sexual harassment from at least two women who worked with him.
Though, he has consistently denied any wrongdoing.
One of the women includes the former managing director of the Niger Delta Development Commission, Joy Nunieh who alleged that the Senate President harassed her during his time as the NDDC minister.
Nunieh also claimed to have slapped Akpabio for sexually harassing her.
Recently, the lawmaker representing Kogi Central at the national assembly, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan alleged that Akpabio has harassed her severally during her short stay at the Nigerian Senate.
Akpoti-Uduaghan who is currently under suspension from the Senate said Akpabio had promised to help her career by handing her juicy positions with the conditions that she yields to his sexual advances.
However, while answering questions on the character of the current Senate President, Atiku said, “Not only was he (Akpabio) corrupt but he was also in the habit of abusing, you know, women.”
Speaking on the planned coalition of opposition parties and leaders across the nation, ahead of the 2027 election, Atiku suggested that they done it (a merger) before and would likely do it again in preparation of the 2027 general elections.
“You know we had, you know, a similar merger in 2014, and there were about four of us. Or is it two or three? We all ran for President and one of us emerged and we all supported the one who emerged and he won. I have not seen Nigeria in dire need of, you know, an experienced and credible leadership than this time,” Atiku said.
