NAMCON to establish cattle ranches in every Nigerian LGA
As part of efforts to modernize livestock farming and enhance agricultural productivity, the National Agricultural Mechanisation Cooperative of Nigeria (NAMCON), has announced plans to set up cattle ranches in all 774 Local Government Areas (LGAs) across the country.
The National President of NAMCON, Dr. Aliyu Waziri disclosed the initiative during a press briefing in Kaduna on Saturday.
He stressed that the proposed ranches would incorporate cutting-edge facilities and infrastructure designed to support sustainable livestock production.
“These ranches will be fully equipped for both rainy and dry season farming activities for the sustained production of food,” Waziri said. “This is very crucial to boosting food security in the country, jobs creation, poverty eradication and jerking off Nigeria’s foreign reserves.”
The ranches will feature essential amenities, including mega dams, animal feed supplies, clinics, and both Islamic and Western schools.
Also, they will house plantations of economic trees such as mango, guava, and cashew.
According to Waziri, this initiative also aims to address persistent herder-farmer conflicts in Nigeria by providing a structured and peaceful solution for livestock management.
“This gesture will greatly help in combating the recurring herder-farmer clashes in the country,” he added.
However, it appears to align with NAMCON’s broader strategy to transform agricultural practices and ensure long-term food security in Nigeria.
