More controversies trail Uruagu-NNewi election & dis/reappearance of “kidnapped” Obi Uruagu

A new twist has been added to the upcoming election of the leadership of the Uruagu Nnewi Community Development Union which is gradually being linked to the sudden disappearance and reappearance of the “kidnapped” Nnewi traditional ruler and Obi of Uruagu, Chief Charles Afam Obi.

Documents in possession of ElombahNews shows that before the traditional ruler was “kidnapped”, he had been served a court paper from the Magistrate Court of Nnewi retraining him from interfering with the work, functions and duties of the plaintiff, Comrade Charles Nwonye, who also is the President of Uruagu Nnewi Community Development Union.

Information available to this medium shows, rather, that Chief Afam Obi had set up a palace committee allegedly to manipulate the election and “select” his choice candidate.

Consequently, Comrade Nwonye, through his lawyers, Chijioke Nwankwo Esq., approached the Magistrate Court holden at Nnewi, praying it to stop his interference and allow the duly-elected Electoral Committee of the Union headed by Sir Augustine Ike to conduct the election.

The presiding judge, Senior Magistrate A.C.I. Emekwue Esq., via an order of interim injunction, ordered the traditional ruler and his cohorts to maintain status quo pending the hearing and determination of the Motion on Notice filed by Nwoye.

The respondents in the matter include Chief Obi, who sued for himself and on behalf of other Members of Obi-in-Council, Uruagu Nnewi Community Development Union, and eight others

Senior Magistrate Emekwue ordered as follows:

1. The Respondents, their agents, privies, successors-in-title, assigns, etc. is hereby restrained for seven working days from interfering with the work, functions and duties of the plaintiff as the President of Uruagu Nnewi Community Development Union until new election are conducted by the duly-elected Electoral Committee of the Union headed by Sir Augustine Ike pending the hearing and determination of the Motion on Notice already filed.
2. The respondents are hereby ordered to maintain the status quo pending the determination of the Motion on Notice.

The Return date is 19th February, 2021, for Motion on Notice.

Ironically, however, shortly after the judge gave the order of interim injunction on Wednesday, February 10, 2021, Chief Afam Obi was reported “abducted by unknown gunmen” on Saturday, February 13, 2021.

An insider, who pleaded anonymity, insinuated that Chief Obi “merely disappeared to avoid being served the court papers”.

Upon his reported “release”, it was gathered that he immediately embarked upon inaugurating the committee he allegedly set up to manipulate the election and “select” his choice candidate.

As soon as news of the inauguration was received by Comrade Nwoye, he again approached the Magistrate Court holden at Nnewi through his lawyers, Chijioke Nwankwo Esq. via suit no: NMC/63/2021, dated March 1, 2021.

The respondents as in the previous case include Chief Obi, who sued for himself and on behalf of other Members of Obi-in-Council, Uruagu Nnewi Community Development Union, and eight others.

The presiding judge, Emekwue ordered that Form 48 titled “Notice of Consequences of Disobedience to Order/Judgment of Court” be served on the Palace and other respondents and stakeholders.

Emekwue warned: “Take notice that unless you obey the directives contained in the order of this honourable court delivered on the 10th day of February, 2021, you will be guilty of contempt of court and liable to be committed to prison.”

Our source, the insider, informed ElombahNews that the Obi Uruagu is left with no option of dissolving his committee, washing his hands off the election, or risk going to jail for contempt of court.
