Man kills mother for rituals, dumps body in well
Police authorities in Cross River State have arrested a 29-year-old man accused of killing his mother for ritual purpose.
SP Irene Ugbo, the spokesman of the command in Cross River confirmed the arrest on Friday.
He said the incident occurred on December 25, 2024, in Batriko, located in Eastern Boki Local Government Area.
This paper gathered that a joint operation involving police and the Obudu council’s security team led to the arrest of the suspect.
According to media reports, the young man had allegedly dumped his mother’s body in a well in Obudu Local Government Area, which immediately prompted a manhunt for him by the authorities.
The suspect was taken into custody alongside a native doctor, with whom he had been in hiding.
Investigators reportedly found a bag containing the shaved hair of the deceased mother at the scene of the arrest.
“As I speak with you, the suspect and the native doctor are presently cooling off at the Obudu Divisional Police Headquarters,” said a source familiar with the development.
It was gathered that the suspect allegedly shaved his mother’s hair before disposing of her body in the well.
Both he and the native doctor are now in police net as investigation continue.
