Man arrested over disappearance of 2 ladies killed while trying to escape
A man identified as Andrew Amaechi Ochekwo, who was arrested in connection with the disappearance of two friends, Celine Ndudim and Afiba Tandoh, is dead.
The two ladies travelled from Port Harcourt to Aba in Abia State to see Andrew Amaechi Ochekwo on April 27, 2024, and have not been seen since then.
Celine and Afibah met Andrew on Facebook and chatted with him for some time before embarking on a trip to his place upon his invitation.
The man was picked up after the disappearance of the two ladies, but he allegedly refused to disclose to the police the whereabouts of the two ladies.
Speaking on the development, Nigerian activist, Harrison Gwamnishu, said Andrew was shot dead by vigilantes while being transported to Abuja from Abia State by police operatives.
“He was killed while trying to escape with his car. The whereabouts of Celine and Afiba is still unknown,” he added.
Mr. Harrison further said that police investigation revealed that Andrew belongs to an organ harvesting syndicate.
He also shared a video of another victim of Andrew who escaped from his house after being held hostage for six days
Giving a background into the killing of the suspect, the activist said there was a move to transfer the case to Abuja for further investigation.
Gwamnishu said this followed a complaint that Andrew was living like a king in police custody in Umuahia, Abia State where the case was first reported by the family of the victims.
An investigation team from Abuja was then despatched to fetch the suspect from there to Abuja.
It was in the process that he allegedly made an attempt to escape and was shot by vigilante men.
He said the vigilante men who shot the suspect are now in police custody.
